WhiteSpace Building Technology Advisors is pleased to welcome Joe Nieves to the team as our newest Project Coordinator.

Joe comes to WhiteSpace from an unexpected place: the classroom. He spent nine years teaching sixth, seventh and eighth grade science, backed by a Bachelor of Science in Middle Childhood Education from Kent State University. If that sounds like a departure from building technology, it isn’t. The heart of the job is the same one Joe did every day for a decade: take something complicated and make it click for the people who need to understand it.

Technology has always been the constant. Joe grew up fascinated by it and has built every one of his own personal computers as a hobby, and with two of his three brothers working in the tech industry, the language of it is second nature. That mix of a teacher’s patience and a builder’s hands-on instinct makes him a natural fit for coordinating the many systems that come together on a WhiteSpace project, from design all the way through to operation.

“What sold me on Joe was his curiosity. That’s the thing we hire for, because in this business you never stop learning,” said Mike Smith, President and CEO of WhiteSpace. “A great teacher spends all day making hard things make sense, which is exactly what we do for our clients. He fits how we work, and we’re glad to have him.”

In Joe’s own words: “I knew I was working in the right place when I first saw the collaboration of everyone in the room. It’s a constant learning experience, and each member supports one another. There is no feeling of getting left behind and figuring it out on your own. Questions are expected and encouraged, and WhiteSpace makes sure communication and teamwork are key. I’m excited to be a part of the team and work together on a project from design all the way to operation.”

Please join us in welcoming Joe to the team.

In plain terms, low voltage is everything the electrician doesn’t want to […]
